SALVO & BERDON CANDY COMPANY RECORDS

1884 - 1950

Ledgers, journals, day books, time books, order books, cash books, transfer ledgers, correspondence, promotional material, and business papers of Salvo and Berdon Candy Company, Natchez, which was organized in 1883 and incorporated in 1891. The company engaged in the manufacture and wholesale and retail sale of confectionery and mineral water, with customers mainly in southwestern Mississippi and east-central Louisiana. Natale Salvo, native of Sicily, came to Natchez in 1875, and engaged in the restaurant business with a brother for a time, and in 1882 married Louise Leonora Berdon, daughter of August Berdon. Salvo was President of the Concord Brick Company (1902), President of Salvo Cigar Factory (1904), and Treasurer of the Natchez Steam Laundry, of which W. H. Berdon was President. Emile William Salvo, son of Natale Salvo, was general manager of Excelsior Laundry Company. Among the papers are a few items concerning the two laundries, and to a soft drink company, which was evidently operated by the candy company.
