One letter and a twenty-one page typewritten manuscript entitled "Reminiscences of J. A. Orr." Orr, a lawyer, served in the Mississippi Legislature, was a delegate to the Secession Convention, served in the Confederate Congress, and was commanding officer of the 31st Mississippi Regiment. In 1870 he was appointed judge of the Sixth Judicial District and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Mississippi.
