Papers of Charles Edger Gibson (18871948), Monticello. Gibson, a lawyer, served in the state House of Representatives from Lawrence County and in the state Senate from Lawrence and Lincoln counties. The papers are chiefly letters to Gibson, who had been elected to serve in the 1916 session of the Legislature, from candidates for Speaker of the House, Postmistress of the House, State Librarian, Sergeant at Arms, Clerk of the House, etc. Included are two letters from Theodore G. Bilbo, dated September 6 and December 15, 1915, and letters from Martin Sennett Conner, candidate for Speaker of the House. Broadsides and copies of proposed legislation are also included in the collection.
