Correspondence of the Reverend T. J. Koger, native of Brooksville, Noxubee County. Mr. Koger was presiding elder of the Columbus District, Alabama Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, prior to the Civil War. He enlisted in the 1st Regiment, 60 Days Mississippi Volunteers, in December 1861. He was made Regimental Postmaster and Chaplain. He later was Captain, Company A, 41st Regiment, Mississippi Volunteers; participated in the Battle of Corinth; and was killed in battle on October 8, 1862.

The majority of the letters were written by Koger to his wife and relate his experiences in the Confederate army. The other correspondence was written by members of Mrs. Koger's family, in particular, Matthew Elder of Dublin, Ireland.
