WORTHINGTON-STONE FAMILY PAPERS

1859-1951

Addition to Worthington Family Papers, this collection contains family letters and papers of the Worthington and Stone families of Washington County. William Mason Worthington, son of Samuel and Amanda D. Worthington, married Mary Elizabeth (Bettie) Stone, daughter of Caleb and Mary Garland Woods Stone. Their children were Albert Dougherty, Carlile, Bettie, Amanda and Mary Garland, who married first Walton Shields, state legislator, and second John P. Archer. The bulk of the correspondence is that of Mary Garland Archer. Genealogies of the Worthington and Stone families are included.

There are several folders of poems and songs written by Miss Amanda Worthington, who was for years the librarian in Greenville. Also contained in the collection are some school papers of Mary Worthington, ten envelopes of photographs, the Book of Prayer of Mary G. Worthington, an unidentified scrapbook and an illustrated children's story book of Bluebeard.
