Letters and petitions to Senator John W. Fewell, Tenth District, (Lauderdale and Clarke counties) principally in regard to legislative matters. Several items pertain to the controversy over the removal of the county seat of Clarke County from Enterprise to Quitman and over the annexation of a part of Clarke County to Lauderdale County. The collection contains a petition to T. W. Cardoza, State Superintendent of Public Instructions, asking that H. Sidney King be appointed superintendent of education of Lauderdale County; a petition to Fewell in regard to the appointment of W. Spillman as superintendent of education of Clarke County; and letters from T. Otis Baker (January 14, 1876) and E. T. Sykes (March 16, 1876).
