Scrapbooks of Dr. J. J. Thornton of Brandon (and Julia Pryor Robbins) who served as Colonel of the 6th Mississippi Infantry. After being wounded at the Battle of Shiloh, Thornton resigned from the army, May 25, 1862. He was the only member of the Convention who refused to sign the Ordinance of Secession. Included are Thornton's commissions, printed and written orders, Confederate and Mississippi state money, Confederate loans, newspaper clippings and letters. The correspondence includes letters from his brother, William, Gen. P. R. Cleburne, Gen. William Hardee, and Gen. Robert Lowry.
