Papers and correspondence of James Zachariah George (1826–1897) of Carrollton. George was a lawyer, Confederate officer, Chief Justice of the Mississippi Supreme Court, and U. S. Senator. Unbound items include some business letters, bills and military orders. Most of the items are letters to his wife, Bettie (Elizabeth Brooks Young George).

The bound volumes consist of four scrapbooks kept by George, containing speeches, miscellaneous notices, and newspaper clippings dating from 1875–1895.
