DRAKE-SATTERFIELD FAMILY PAPERS, ACCRETION

1882; 1893; 1901 - 1902

This collection contains five items: 4 letters to various Drake family members and 1 receipt from E. M. Forchheimer for the funeral of Rev. J. P. Drake. The correspondence in this collection possesses little historical significance. One of the four letters, addressed simply "Dear Bro. Drake," is a letter of sympathy following the death of an unmentioned family member sometime in 1882. A second letter from R. M. Hand addressed to Bro. Drake narrates the events leading to various members of a church in Quitman contributing to a special fund for the building of a new church. In a third letter from J. P. Drake to his son, W. M., the events surrounding his sister's employment as a teacher in Liberty, a once prospering town in Amite County, are related. In the final letter addressed to Magruder from his brother, E. S., the former is informed of his father's stabilizing health.
