BANK OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI RECORDS

1810 - 1844

Correspondence and records of the Bank of the State of Mississippi, which was chartered on Dec. 23, 1809, as the Bank of the Mississippi; which was rechartered on Feb. 4, 1818, as the Bank of the State of Mississippi; and which was authorized on Dec. 19, 1831, to close its affairs and go out of business. The bank was located in Natchez and had offices in Port Gibson, Vicksburg and Woodville.

The collection is arranged in four files as follows:

The Miscellaneous Correspondence File, which contains 1,360 items in 93 folders, is divided into the following sections: The Letters to Gabriel Tichenor File contains 5,271 items filed alphabetically in 382 folders. The Papers File, which is composed of notes, checks, bills of exchange, reports, invoices, statements, balance sheets, correspondence, orders, and other legal and financial papers, contains 30,700 items filed chronologically in 1,388 folders.

The Stock Certificate File contains 926 items filed numerically in 48 folders.

The entire collection is filed in 1,914 folders in 109 manuscript boxes. This collection is also known as the "Campbell Collection."
