CLARK (CHARLTON M.) COLLECTION

1847 - 1941

Historical papers and miscellaneous letters of Charlton M. Clark (1867–1942), Mississippi-born editor, writer and speaker who spent most of his time in Washington, D.C., where he was president of the Mississippi Society. This collection includes many newspaper clippings of historical interest on Kosciusko, Attala County, Indians, the Natchez Trace, the Kosciusko press, travel in Europe, Washington news, and miscellaneous subjects, mostly by Mr. Clark. Also in the collection are two diaries kept by Micajah Clark in 1848 and 1861, and miscellaneous letters ranging in date from 1847 to 1941, including letters from Key Pittman, John Sharp Williams, Hernando D. Money, and other Washington notables of the period 1909–1934. Part of the collection includes the following pamphlets: "Chronicles of the Fire-eaters of the Tribe of Mississippi"; Thomas Percy Guyton, "The Old Natchez Trace"; a thesis, "Ancient Egypt, the Source of Government and Jurisprudence,"; and a typed manuscript and unbound draft of a work entitled "The Indians and the Revolution". This collection includes a genealogy of the Clark family, the "Genealogy of Charlton M. Clark," the autobiography of Charlton M. Clark, a sketch of Sophia Clagett Clark, and some family history.
