This search queries keywords in the court case file database. Court cases in the Mississippi Department of Archives & History's holdings date from the territorial period through the late 1980s, and include case file records from territorial courts, district courts (superior chancery courts), and high courts (High Court of Errors and Appeals). The modern Supreme Court (1870-present) (minus Series 2472 death penalty cases) is searched here.

When searching by "phrase," the search term may be a name of plaintiff or defendant, a place or company name. Remember that variations of spelling (particularly applicable to 19th century documents) will affect the number of hits. Also, be aware that some standard abbreviations have been used (such as "Co." for "Company" and "Inc." for "Incorporated") and should be used in querying. When searching by "case number," enter the case number only, without a prefix or suffix.
